Ms. Harrington and Mr. Gundersen’s conversation covers the troubles with nuclear industry regulation locally at Vermont Yankee, nationally with discontinued cancer research by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the worldwide impact of constant radioactive pollution daily emitting from TEPCO’s (Tokyo Electric Power Co.) triple meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi site in Japan, and Japan’s decision to force the victims of the Fukushima Daiichi disaster to move back to their now contaminated and destroyed homes that lie within the evacuation zone. In closing, Mr. Gundersen points out that we should not be calling the nuclear meltdown at Fukushima Daiichi an accident “because,” as he explains, “an accident is like when an owl hits your windshield.
