The third film in the Thor franchise by Marvel Comics was a huge success at the box office during its first weekend of release. But what underlining messages are being placed into the minds of the unknowing public? In my personal opinion, scenes like the one shown of Thor going through a process before meeting the Grandmaster, even getting his hair cut off, and its reference to the psychoactive boat ride from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, all point to one thing; initiation. What do these scenes and the actual rituals conducted to become members of secret societies have in common? More than you might initially think.
