Americans Have Less National Pride than Yemenis, Mexicans, Libyans, Rwandans, Ghanaians, Zimbabweans, Pakistanis, Nigerians, Egyptians, Jordanians, Azerbaijanis, Armenians, Moroccans, Kazakhstanis, Tunisians, Qataris … and More than a Dozen Others

from Washington’s Blog.com:

Americans’ pride in our country is legendary … or at least it used to be.

The World Values Survey – a global network of social scientists studying changing values and their impact on social and political life, led by an international team of scholars – finds that the percent of Americans who are “very proud” of the U.S. fell from 77% in 1999, to 71.1% in 2004, 62% in 2009 and only 56% today.

That puts Americans’ pride behind the national pride felt by the Yemenis, Mexicans, Libyans, Rwandans, Ghanaians, Zimbabweans, Pakistanis, Nigerians, Egyptians, Jordanians, Azerbaijanis, Armenians, Moroccans, Kazakhstanis, Tunisians, Qataris … and 13 other countries see above.

Another recent poll finds that Mexicans are now happier than Americans.

Other recent polls find that Americans believe that 75% of all politicians are “corrupted” by campaign donations and lobbyists, and 70% percent of politicians use their political power to help their friends and hurt their enemies.

71% of Americans believe the election system is biased in favor of the candidate with more money.

Multiple polls find that Americans are more afraid of our government than of terrorists.

Americans think the financial system is rigged for the wealthy. 52 percent of Americans “do not think the economy is fair to those willing to work hard”.

A Gallup poll shows that the majority of Americans – 58% – say that both the Republicans and Democrats are doing such a poor job representing the people that a new, third party is needed.   A national Rasmussen Reports survey has found that an all-time high 53 percent of all Americans believe that neither major political party “represents the American people”. The Washington Post writes:

Poll after poll shows that both national parties are deeply unpopular with an electorate looking for something new and different.

An average of national polls finds that only 29 percent of Americans believe that the country is heading in the right direction.

65 percent of Americans are dissatisfied “with the U.S. system of government and its effectiveness” … the highest level of dissatisfaction that Gallup has ever recorded.

The most stunning poll: only 21% of likely voters think that our government has the “consent of the governed”.  And see this.

No wonder Congress is less popular among Americans than zombies, witches, dog poop, potholes, toenail fungus, hemorrhoids, cockroaches, lice, root canals, colonoscopies, traffic jams, used car salesmen, Genghis Khan, communism, North Korea, BP during the Gulf oil spill, Nixon during Watergate or King George during the American Revolution.

And Obama isn’t so hot, either.
