Israelis wish the Palestinians a happy Purim!

Two cars were torched and spray-painted with racist slogans in a Palestinian village northwest of Ramallah early Thursday morning, the Palestinian news agency Ma’an reported.

The Hebrew-language graffiti included “Death to the Arabs” alongside a Star of David.

“I was woken at 3:50 A.M. by the sound of the car alarm, and I went out to put out the fire,” Akram Naasan, who owns one of the torched cars, told Ma’an.

He said his village, al-Mughayyir, is located in a part of the West Bank under full Israeli security control, so Palestinian police are forbidden to operate there and protect the residents. “The Israel Police doesn’t protect us, and they don’t let the Palestinian police protect us,” he charged.

Naasan said that he and other village residents had filed more than 70 complaints to the Israeli police about settler attacks in the past.

A week ago, a mosque was torched in the West Bank village of Jaba’a, near Bethlehem. WAFA, the official Palestinian news agency, said settlers were behind that crime as well, noting that the mosque had been spray-painted with Hebrew slogans like “We want the redemption of Zion” and “vengeance.” Police are investigating the incident.

The Jaba’a mosque is the 10th mosque to be torched since July 2011, but so far, not a single indictment has been filed in any of these cases. Some of the torched mosques were located in Israel rather than the West Bank.

About a year ago, al-Mughayyir’s mosque was torched and spray-painted with racist slogans. Villagers said the arson caused major damage to the first floor and minor damage to the second floor.
