Well first of all, did you know that the Department of Defense used to be called the War Department? It’s true. But when Edward Bernays the father of modern propaganda urged top brass to change the name in order to bolster public opinion, they happily obliged.
And in recent years the not-always-honest Pentagon has been caught with its pants down in the cases of quite a few major war story embellishments including the Jessica Lynch Iraqi-hospital-firefight debacle, the Pat Tillman friendly fire fragging and the White House distributed staged Osama bin Laden raid photo op.
